Prior to joining FEW’s lab, Selena engaged in undergraduate research on topics including: analyzing biochar and conventional solid waste treatment, studying the ambient air quality from a waste facility in relation to a local rural community, evaluating the use of water treatment residuals for preventing the export of phosphorus in a rain garden and monitored a natural permeable pavement, designing an on-site building-scale full blackwater reuse system. She received her BS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020. Selena is a PhD student in the Water Resources Engineering Program at Penn State. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, biking, snowboarding, baking, and spending time with family and friends. Her broad research interests include natural resource management, decision-making, and the food-energy-water nexus. Throughout her education, Lauren has had an interest in the relationship between people and the environment. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, she received a BS in Environmental Science and a BA in Political Science from the University of New Mexico. She received her MS in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science from Penn State in 2019 where she studied methane emissions from potential gas migration from shale gas wells. Lauren is a PhD student in the Water Resources Engineering Program at Penn State. In his free time, Luis enjoys reading, traveling, playing soccer and doing community service. His primary research interests are urban sustainability, critical infrastructure planning, energy/water resources, and policy analysis. Following his undergraduate studies, Luis spent about a year and a half working on various construction projects as a civil engineer, and also co-founding a manufacturing and design startup. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso in December 2016 with the Highest Honors (first in his family to receive a four-year college degree in the U.S).
